Indications

Disinfectant for- skin and gloved hands obstetrics, antiseptic lubricant for vaginal examinations and on forceps for hand antisepsis. First aid to help prevent infection in minor- cuts scrapes burns

Composition

• Active Ingredient : Chloroxylenol 4.8% w/v
• Inactive Ingredients : Caramel, castor oil soap, isopropyl alcohol (12%), pine oil, water

Pharmacology

As a phenol antiseptic, it is believed that the hydroxyl -OH groups of the chloroxylenol molecule binds to certain proteins on the cell membrane of bacteria, and disrupts the membrane so as to allow the contents of the bacterial cell to leak out. This allows chloroxylenol to enter the bacterial cell to bind further with more proteins and enzymes to disable the cell's functioning. At particularly high concentrations of chloroxylenol, the protein and nucleic acid content of targeted bacterial cells become coagulated and cease to function, leading to rapid cell death.

Dosage & Administration

Dilute 1 tablespoonful (15mL) in 10 oz. (300 mL) of water Clean the affected area Apply to affected area and cover with gauze or bandage Do not use undiluted product.

Hypersensitivity

Side Effects

Skin sensitivity; irritation of conjunctiva, mucosal irritation; reversible brown staining of the teeth; tongue discoloration and burning sensation; transient taste disturbance; parotid gland swelling.

For external use only Do not use- in the eyes over large areas of the body Ask a doctor before use if you have- deep wounds or puncture wounds animal bites serious burns Stop use and ask a doctor if- irritation, sensitization, or allergic reaction occurs. Storage Conditions

Keep out of reach of children. If swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away. Do not induce vomiting.
